Morton Plant Mease Health Care To Host 'Spirituality and Healing In Medicine' Conference

CLEARWATER, Fla. (March 30, 2004)---Morton Plant Mease Health Care will host a conference for health care providers about Spirituality and Healing in Medicine on Saturday, April 3 from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The conference will take place at The Harborview Center, 300 Cleveland Street, Clearwater, Fla.

The "Spirituality and Healing in Medicine" conference will give health care professionals a thorough understanding of the power of spirituality in the healing process. Participants will learn about different types of spiritual techniques and understand how to incorporate spirituality into patient care. The conference will include keynote addresses in the morning and the choice of five afternoon workshops in a variety of topics, such as prayer, music, breathing exercises and humor.

"Spirituality can be a powerful force in the healing process," said Philip K. Beauchamp, president and CEO of Morton Plant Mease Health Care. "Health care providers who attend this conference will learn more about spirituality and medicine, and its positive effect on patients as they heal from illness."

The conference will be led by noted experts in the field of spiritual healing, including Francis S. MacNutt, Ph.D., a theologian who wrote the best-selling book, Healing; his wife, Judith Sewell MacNutt, M.A., a psychotherapist and co-author of Praying For Your Unborn Child; and James A. Avery, M.D., medical director of VNS Hospice in New York City and former medical director of The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast.

The fee for attending the "Spirituality and Healing in Medicine" conference is $75, which includes lunch. Continuing education hours will be given to health care professionals for attendance.
