Florida Organization of Nurse Executives Recognizes Morton Plant Mease Vice President of Patient Services
Lisa Johnson Earns 2013 Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award
CLEARWATER, Fla., (March 5, 2014) - Morton Plant Mease is proud to announce Lisa Johnson, vice president of patient services, has received statewide recognition from the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives (FONE) with an Excellence in Nursing Leadership award.
Johnson was honored for showing excellence in innovative approaches that continue to contribute to the quality of nursing care, practice leadership, research and education; demonstrating leadership skills to facilitate change and improvements of outcomes for patient care; and acting as a mentor while encouraging continued education for other nurses.
“Lisa is truly one of the most inspirational nursing leaders and a true advocate for the nursing profession,” said Lou Galdieri, president, Mease Countryside and Mease Dunedin hospitals. “We are pleased she has been recognized as one of the best by the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives because she works tirelessly to ensure nursing provides top quality care for our patients.”
Under Johnson’s leadership, Morton Plant Mease has partnered with the University of South Florida (USF) to create a Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) program allowing selected nurses to have full accountability for nursing care and outcomes for a select group of patients and then allowing them to influence curriculum development and program implementation. A care delivery model for Morton Plant Mease was built around the new CNL role.
“Lisa has led the way on countless programs and initiatives focused on the quality of nursing care and the patient experience,” noted Kris Hoce, president, Morton Plant Hospital. One such program is the Dr. George Morris “Earn as You Learn” work study program. Created to encourage nurses to advance their education and training in specific areas of patient care, the program also provides books and tuition to many nursing students.
Johnson has worked at Morton Plant Mease for 25 years. She is an active member with the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives (FONE), the Tampa Bay Organization of Nurse Executives (TBONE), and the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE).
The Florida Organization of Nurse Executives (FONE) is a group for nurse leaders who provide vision for the advancement of professional nursing practice and patient care. FONE promotes excellence is leadership to shape the future of health care delivery, education, and health policy in Florida.
