Morton Plant Mease Hosts Seminars for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
CLEARWATER, Fla., (Sept. 19, 2013) - Morton Plant Mease will host two free seminars in October to help educate and inform women during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Peter Blumencranz, MD, will provide an “Overview of Breast Cancer” at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the Cheek-Powell Heart & Vascular Pavilion, Meeting Room A, 455 Pinellas St., Clearwater. Dr. Blumencranz will discuss the many changes that occur in breasts during a lifetime and help you understand which changes are normal and which are not. Learn about breast cancer risk factors, warning signs, and other breast conditions. Lunch will be served.
Dr. Blumencranz is an internationally recognized breast cancer specialist. He is a surgical oncologist and the medical director of the Comprehensive Breast Program and Cancer Services for Morton Plant Mease Health Care, and of Moffitt-Morton Plant Mease Cancer Care.
Join Morton Plant Mease physicians for a roundtable discussion on “Women’s Health – Current Information” at 1 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 17 at Morton Plant Mease Outpatient Center, First Floor Conference Room, 2102 Trinity Oaks Blvd., Trinity. Surgical oncologist Kathleen “Kate” Allen, MD, ob/gyn Jessica Berg, MD, and family physician Melissa Launder, MD, will talk about breast and gynecological concerns, and provide information about current medical approaches for diagnosing and treating a variety of women’s health challenges.
In 2013, more than 230,000 women and 2,200 men are estimated to develop new cases of breast cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute. The Institute estimates that nearly 40,000 women and 400 men will die of breast cancer in 2013.
