Seventh Annual Race Challenges With Triple Bridge Course
CLEARWATER, Fla., (June 1, 2012) – Morton Plant Mease Triathlon race organizers are calling for volunteers to help assist approximately 1,000 participants expected to compete in the seventh annual Morton Plant Mease Triathlon on Sunday, June 24, 2012 as they swim, bike and run through scenic Clearwater Beach.
The Morton Plant Mease Triathlon challenges athletes with a triple bridge course and kicks off at 6:50 a.m. with a 1/3-mile open water swim in the Gulf of Mexico off Sand Key Park; a 13-mile bike ride over the Sand Key, Memorial Causeway and Belleair Causeway bridges; and then 3.1-mile run finishing in Sand Key Park.
Volunteers can be part of this exciting event by assisting in positions such as athlete check-in, body marking, course marshal, water stations and finish line. Athletes wanting to participate in the Morton Plant Mease Triathlon can visit www.active.com for online race registration. As of June 1, Registration fees are $80 for individuals and $100 for relay teams.
The race is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and the 2012 USAT Florida Regional Junior Championship is held within the Morton Plant Mease Triathlon. Junior athletes, ages 16 to 19, will compete for the title and for bragging rights as the fastest junior in the region. Some proceeds from the Morton Plant Mease Triathlon will benefit pediatric services at the hospitals of Morton Plant Mease.
