Morton Plant Hospital and Mease Countryside Hospital Receive Recognition in Respiratory Care

CLEARWATER, Fla., (February 25, 2009) The respiratory care departments at Morton Plant Hospital and Mease Countryside Hospital have been awarded the 2009 Quality Respiratory Care Recognition from the American Association for Respiratory Care.

The annual designation is given to hospitals that meet national guidelines and standards of respiratory care. Approximately 15% of the 5,000 hospitals in the United States hold this recognition.

Robert Lynch is the Director of Cardiology at Morton Plant Hospital, and oversees the respiratory departments of Morton Plant Mease Health Care. “The respiratory teams at Morton Plant and Mease Countryside Hospitals are protocol driven. They have the respect from the doctors and nurses. It is a strong team of professionals.”

Respiratory therapists provide breathing treatments, manage ventilators, conduct blood tests for oxygen levels and provide other pulmonary services to patients with lung cancer, asthma, pulmonary disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other lung-related conditions.

In addition, Morton Plant Mease Health Care extends its services to patients with lung disease by offering outpatient care at the Lung Center. The Center offers rehabilitation programs to help patients with diminished breathing capacity. It offers diagnostic services, exercise programs, as well as smoking cessation classes.

The Lung Center is located at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. Services are also provided at the Morton Plant Mease Wellness Center in Palm Harbor. People suffering from lung related illness can contact the Lung Center at (727) 461-8904 for more information.
