Morton Plant Mease Primary Care, Inc. Receives National Recognition|
CLEARWATER, Fla., (October 14, 2008) - The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) through the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program (DPRP) has recognized Morton Plant Mease Primary Care, Inc (MPMPC) for its diabetes care. This recognition acknowledges that MPMPC’s team of 80 primary care physicians is part of an elite group, skilled in providing the highest level of diabetes care.
“This distinguished honor is the result of an extensive effort by our physicians to provide the highest level of care to our diabetic patients. We do this by following strict clinical protocols established by the American Diabetes Association and work diligently each day to ensure that appropriate, individualized care is given to patients with diabetes,” said Stephen H. Jacobs, M.D., F.A.C.P., president and chief executive office, Morton Plant Mease Primary Care, Inc.
To be honored by the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program, physicians submit performance data on diabetes care including eye exams, blood pressure tests, glucose levels and cholesterol control, among others. According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 23 million Americans, or 8 percent of the U.S. population, have diabetes. Diabetes patients who receive care in accordance with DPRP guidelines are less likely to suffer diabetes related complications such as heart attacks, stroke, blindness, kidney disease and amputations.
The Diabetes Physician Recognition Program is voluntary and was created in 1997 through a partnership between the National Committee for Quality Assurance and the American Diabetes Association. More than 4,300 physicians currently hold NCQA Recognition for high quality diabetes care. NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and recognizes physicians in key clinical areas. NCQA’s Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) is the most widely used performance measurement tool in health care. NCQA is committed to providing health care quality information through the Web, media and data licensing agreements in order to help consumers, employers and others make more informed health care choices.
