CLEARWATER, Fla., (February 26, 2008) – Philip K. Beauchamp today announced his plans to retire in 2009 from his position as president and chief executive officer of Morton Plant Mease Health Care. The organization will conduct a national search for his replacement, and Beauchamp will remain as MPMHC’s President/CEO through the transition.
“Morton Plant Mease has achieved outstanding results in improved quality and cost effectiveness while strengthening the care delivered to the community under Beauchamp’s leadership,” said Larry Morgan, Morton Plant Mease Board Chairman. “He has many accomplishments that have benefited the community in the past 16 years of his leadership. We are grateful for his service and dedication, and for his offer to help during the transition period.”
Beauchamp was at the helm of the organization during its merger into Morton Plant Mease Health Care, which has resulted in tremendous growth while achieving savings for the community. He led many strategic planning initiatives. He created the Morton Plant Mease Physicians Advisory Council, a collaborative forum that helps Morton Plant Mease and its physicians face future health care challenges together. Beauchamp also led the initiative to create Morton Plant Mease Primary Care, which has brought nearly one hundred primary care physicians to the community.
“Phil is an innovative and creative leader,” said Stephen R. Mason, President and CEO of BayCare Health System. “He has a national reputation for his dedication to fundraising and developing programs that benefit the community.”
Beauchamp was appointed president and CEO of Morton Plant Mease Health Care in 1997. Before his current position, Beauchamp served for five years as the president and CEO of Mease Health Care. He was also president and CEO of Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida.
“I am blessed to have had a 38-year career in health care,” Beauchamp said. “It has been a privilege to work in a field that has such a profound impact on the individual lives of our community. At Morton Plant Mease, I have had the opportunity to work with a team of dedicated and talented professionals who are committed to providing the highest quality of health care possible.”
Beauchamp served on a variety of health and community organizations including Board positions for the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross, Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Ruth Eckerd Hall. At age 62, Beauchamp plans to continue his involvement with the community and his church and spend time with his family during his retirement.
