Patients, Families Stay in Touch with Morton Plant Mease "E-mail a Patient"

New Web Service Provides Personalized Messages to Patients

CLEARWATER, Fla., (January 28, 2008) - When a patient’s family and friends can’t be by their side in the hospital, Morton Plant Mease is providing a way to bring together patients and loved ones. It’s called “E-mail a Patient” and the new health care system Web based service allows families and friends to send “get well” wishes to Morton Plant Mease patients with just a few clicks on the computer.

“Hospital volunteers hand deliver e-mails right to a patient’s bedside and the response from patients has been very positive. Support of family and friends is so important to our patients and this is another way to bring that caring directly to our patients. Patients really seem to like and appreciate the service,” said Philip K. Beauchamp, president and chief executive officer, Morton Plant Mease Health Care.

To use the new web service log on to and click on the “E-mail a Patient” button on the home page. By completing a short form, friends and family from around the world can send their messages of love and support to patients staying at any of the four Morton Plant Mease hospitals and the Morton Plant Rehabilitation Center on the campus of Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. The e-mail messages are delivered Monday through Friday.

“E-mail a Patient” is another exciting way for loved ones to stay in touch with patients through the Web. In 2006, Morton Plant Mease installed free high-speed wireless Internet access, also commonly known as Wi-Fi at its hospital campuses. Visitors and patients can go online if they have a wireless device (such as a PDA) or laptop computer equipped with a wireless card. Additionally, Morton Plant Mease began offering CarePages - private, secure Web pages updated by a patient or a family member to communicate the health status of a patient. This service is also available through the health care system’s Web site. Nearly 2,800 messages were posted on Morton Plant Mease CarePages in 2007.

Nationally recognized for health care excellence, Morton Plant Mease Health Care is dedicated to providing community owned health care services that set the standard for high-quality, compassionate care. Morton Plant Mease Health Care is comprised of the following hospitals – Morton Plant, Clearwater; Mease Dunedin, Dunedin; Mease Countryside, Safety Harbor and Morton Plant North Bay, New Port Richey.
