02/19/2007

Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital Only Program in Pasco, Hernando Counties Honored by CARF

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla., (February 19, 2007) - The inpatient rehabilitation program at the Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital at Morton Plant North Bay is one of only four programs of its kind in the Tampa Bay area - and the only program in Pasco and Hernando counties - to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). This is the fourth consecutive, three-year accreditation awarded by CARF to the inpatient rehabilitation program.

“This accreditation is the hallmark of quality. It is given to only those rehabilitation programs that through a rigorous review process, demonstrate that the program’s services provide the highest quality patient care,” said John D. Couris, chief operating officer, Morton Plant North Bay Hospital.

The inpatient rehabilitation program at the Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital at Morton Plant North Bay is a 20-bed acute care facility that is committed to helping patients reach their maximum level of function, self-care and independence. The program is staffed by physicians, rehabilitation nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and speech pathologists. Rehabilitative therapy is provided seven days a week for the treatment of conditions such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, neurological disorders including muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis, and severe or advanced osteoarthritis. Rehabilitation services are also provided for patients who have undergone knee and/or hip replacement surgery. The inpatient rehabilitation program was established at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in 1987.

“Many of our team members have been a part of the inpatient rehabilitation program for more than a decade. It’s that wealth of experience treating and caring for patients that has contributed to the high level of care we provide and to us being honored four consecutive times,” said Robert Soleo, manager of rehabilitation services, Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital at Morton Plant North Bay.

Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, CARF is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of human service providers in the areas of rehabilitation, employment, child and family, community, and aging services. The CARF family of organizations currently accredits more than 4,900 providers at more than 17,000 locations in the United States, Canada, Western Europe, and South America. More than 6.3 million persons of all ages are served annually by CARF-accredited providers.
