Morton Plant Mease Health Care Partners with YWCA of Tampa Bay to Open New Child Development Center|
CLEARWATER, Fla., (December 18, 2006) - High-quality early education and child care for young children improves their health and promotes development and learning according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). With the opening of the YWCA of Tampa Bay Child Development Center in Safety Harbor in partnership with Morton Plant Mease Health Care, Morton Plant Mease team members will have access to quality care and education for children.
“We’re excited to partner with the YWCA of Tampa Bay to bring a second child care facility to our team members. This wonderful and much needed service will help us bring nurses and other clinical staff back to the work force,” said Marcia Albanese, director of Women’s Services, Morton Plant Mease Health Care. “The center is located only three miles from Mease Countryside Hospital. Mease Countryside employs nearly 2,000 health care professionals, many of whom are parents relying on child care.
Anticipated to open in January 2007, the new child development center will be located within the YWCA of Tampa Bay center at 1001 Martin Luther King Jr. Street in Safety Harbor. The center is being refurbished with a grant from the Morton Plant Mease Foundation. It will provide care for children ages two months to five years to primarily children of Morton Plant Mease Health Care nursing staff and team members. Credentialed teachers and trained aides will provide the “Ages and Stages” curriculum that meets the high standards of the National Association for the Education of Young People. A voluntary pre-kindergarten program is also available for four year olds.
“All children learn at different rates,” stated Albanese. “The child care center’s curriculum is age-appropriate, focusing on all aspects of each child’s development – social, physical, language and cognitive – while remaining culturally sensitive.”
Hours for the center will be 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Parents interested in learning more about the new child development center and tuition rates may call Vikki Yates at (727) 462-7334.
This is Morton Plant Mease’s second child care center. In 2004, the health care system partnered with the YWCA of Tampa Bay to open the Mary Ann and Bernard F. Powell Child Care and Learning Center located on the Morton Plant Hospital campus in Clearwater. The Powell Child Care and Learning Center was made possible through a generous donation by Mary Ann and Bernard F. Powell.
The YWCA of Tampa Bay currently operates three licensed child care centers that are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. School readiness, diversity, and cultural sensitivity are priorities within the research-based curriculum.
