Morton Plant North Bay Hospital Honors Pasco County Family with Rehabilitation Hospital Name
07/31/2006

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla., (July 31, 2006) -The rehabilitation center of Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey, Florida has a new name - the Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital. The name honors James W. and Dorothy S. Mitchell, Sr. and the entire Mitchell family of New Port Richey for their many years of dedication and support to Morton Plant North Bay Hospital.

“The Mitchell family is well known in the Pasco County community for their leadership, volunteerism and commitment to improving health care, the arts and education. We are honored to have the Mitchell name on the Morton Plant North Bay Hospital building and on a sign just outside the entrance to the rehabilitation area,” said Katherine Wicker, interim administrator and chief operating officer, Morton Plant North Bay Hospital.

“Having been a patient of the rehabilitation hospital, I have tremendous respect and admiration for the medical care and expertise given to patients like myself. I’m honored that they would choose to add my family’s name to the hospital,” said James W. Mitchell.

The Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital is a 20-bed medical rehabilitation unit and is the only acute rehabilitation facility in Pasco County accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an organization that recognizes only those facilities that meet its stringent quality standards. Specialized services include physical, occupational and speech therapy on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Through individualized therapy, more than 90 percent of rehabilitation patients return home, educated about their care and able to lead independent lives.

Established in 1965, Morton Plant North Bay Hospital is a 122-bed facility committed to improving the health of everyone it serves. Morton Plant North Bay’s stroke care program has received the highest level of recognition - the Gold Seal of ApprovalTM for Primary Stroke Care from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). In 2003, the hospital was awarded Magnet Designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the most prestigious national recognition of excellence in nursing care. Morton Plant North Bay Hospital is located at 6600 Madison Street, New Port Richey, Fla., (727) 842-8468.
