SantaFe HealthCare Purchases Bayview Gardens Retirement Community|
CLEARWATER, Fla., February 1, 2006 - In a move that will enhance senior living options in Clearwater, SantaFe HealthCare, Inc. announced today that it has purchased the Bayview Gardens retirement community from Morton Plant Mease Life Services.
The purchase assures that the 32-acre property will continue to serve seniors for decades to come, SantaFe and Morton Plant Mease officials said.
"We are delighted to assume ownership of Bayview Gardens," said Robert C. Hudson, President and CEO of SantaFe HealthCare. "SantaFe and Morton Plant Mease consider this transaction a win for both seniors and Clearwater. Not only will the community stay dedicated to senior living and quality health care, but we also plan to make operational improvements that will enhance the experience for our residents."
SantaFe and Morton Plant Mease share a commitment to preserve the property as a not-for-profit community for seniors and share a philosophical view that seniors need more continuum-of-care options, officials at both organizations said.
"We have found a perfect partner for this transition in SantaFe HealthCare," said Denton Crockett, President of Morton Plant Mease Life Services, Inc. "The Morton Plant Mease community board decided we would better serve our citizens by refocusing on our core hospital services. Our first priority was to find a new owner who was committed to maintaining senior living at Bayview Gardens. And in SantaFe, we have found that owner."
The community, located at 2855 Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, currently consists of a 94-unit assisted living facility and 229 independent living units that range from studios to one- and two-bedroom units. It was constructed in the 1960s. Currently, there are about 295 residents and 95 employees at the property.
The dedicated and professional staff already in place at Bayview Gardens was one of the key reasons that SantaFe decided to purchase the property, said Michael P. Gallagher, President of SantaFe Senior Living, Inc. "I know the management team at SantaFe is looking forward to working with the great team of employees at Bayview Gardens who will continue to provide high-quality care to our residents there," Gallagher added.
SantaFe HealthCare is based in Gainesville, Fla., and has been providing high-quality independent living and health care services to seniors in Florida for more than 35 years. The parent company of AvMed Health Plans - Florida's largest not-for-profit health plan - SantaFe also operates Haven Hospice of North Central Florida and the North Florida Retirement Village, also known as "The Village," a retirement community serving over 450 seniors through independent living apartments and cottages and assisted living, memory support and congregate care facilities on a campus in Gainesville. Both AvMed and The Village score high on quality and satisfaction surveys.
SantaFe HealthCare is partnering with Greystone Communities of Dallas, a national leader in managing and marketing Continuing Care Retirement Communities.
