Great Beginnings for New Families in Morton Plant Hospital Penthouse Family Suites|
CLEARWATER, Fla. (March 26, 2002)---Babies born at Morton Plant Hospital can get their first view of the world from the top floor in the new Family Suites unit. The $1.9-million renovation creates private penthouse suites for families and newborns, complete with private baths.
"The 16,800-square foot Family Suites unit was remodeled with our top priority in mind---family bonding," said Marcia Wiseman, director of women and children's services at Morton Plant Hospital. "During their hospital experience, families are able to stay together in the comfort of their own suite and even have the added amenity of room service at their disposal."
The specially trained nursing staff worked closely with the architectural firm of Mason Blau of Clearwater, Fla., on the redesign of Morton Plant Hospital's Family Suites unit to streamline patient care. Most of the home-like family suites have a view of the Gulf of Mexico and the new parent lounge has computer access to give proud families the opportunity to look up helpful information or to e-mail photos of their newest additions.
Morton Plant Hospital is dedicated to meeting the needs of the entire family during the childbirth experience from labor to delivery. At the Sarah Walker Women's Center, the family can opt for anything from natural childbirth to water-birth. Since early fall, the hospital has seen the delivery of 12 babies in its designated water-birthing room, complete with mural painted by a member of the hospital nursing staff.
