"Dr. Pocock has taken the lead in many new initiatives to improve the quality of health care for patients and the working environment for health care professionals," said Philip K. "In his previous positions, Dr. Pocock has helped lead the way for improved medical record keeping and hospitalist programs - clinical excellence initiatives Morton Plant Mease is undertaking."

A national search of candidates for the position of chief medical officer led to the selection of Dr. Pocock. He replaces Roger A. Ray, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.P.E. Dr. Ray is now the chief quality officer for the BayCare Health System.

"Dr. Pocock will continue goals set forth by Dr. Ray to assist medical staff in the advancement of physician-hospital relationships and to lead in decision making processes affecting clinical programs and practices," stated Beauchamp. "He will also be at the forefront of helping Morton Plant Mease create an Electronic Medical Record, a computerized system for all aspects of our patient records. Dr. Pocock has the experience to make this transition a smooth process."

Prior to accepting the position as chief medical officer, Dr. Pocock spent four years at Roper St. Francis Healthcare in Charleston, South Carolina, a not-for-profit, 657-bed system with more than 25 facilities in four counties. Dr. Pocock served as vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer.

Among his many accomplishments at Roper St. Francis Healthcare, Dr. Pocock spearheaded the development of a vascular center and a hospitalist program. While in private practice at Eastern Carolina Internal Medicine, Pollocksville, North Carolina, from 1980 to 2001, Dr. Pocock implemented an electronic medical record initiative, which served six offices and a hospitalist service. More than 65,000 active records were on line.

A native of Ohio, Dr. Pocock earned his undergraduate degree from the College of Wooster and his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at the University of North Carolina and did fellowship training in Infectious Disease at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
