Newborn Care at Mease Countryside Hospital
The specialized newborn care offered at Mease Countryside Hospital's Maternity Center and Pediatric Unit is strengthened by our partnership with St. Joseph's Children's Hospital and the 24-hour Steinbrenner Emergency/Trauma Center for Children. St. Joseph's Children's Hospital of Tampa is well known throughout the southeast United States as a leader in pediatric heart and cancer care.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
For babies who are born early, who have problems during delivery, or who develop problems while still in the hospital, we offer peace of mind with neonatal intensive care unit, sometimes called a special care nursery.
Offering a high-level of specialty newborn care, Mease Countryside Hospital has a five-bed Level III and five-bed Level II unit. Our team includes certified nurses, respiratory therapy staff and 24-hour, in house board-certified neonatologists and nurse practitioners. A specialized NICU transport ambulance offers coordinated, one-call service between Mease Countryside and Morton Plant hospitals and St. Joseph's Children's Hospital Neonatal Center.
Emergency Pediatric Care
Pediatric emergency care is essential, as children sometimes need different care than adults.
Mease Countryside Hospital's Jacobsen Emergency Department is designed to better treat the emergency medical needs of children with specialized equipment and emergency nurses with pediatric education. Jacobsen ER at Mease Countryside Hospital provides comprehensive, compassionate care, 24 hours a day, seven days a week and offers a unique and colorful children's waiting area.
Pediatric Inpatient Unit
Mease Countryside Hospital has 6 private rooms and 14 semi-private rooms designed to meet children's inpatient medical needs—with a total of 20 beds for children. The environment for 2-day olds to 17-year olds is homey, cozy, inviting and non-threatening, while featuring advanced, age-appropriate equipment including monitoring capabilities. Other features include:
- Family-centered approach always includes parents in decisions and in the plan of care
- One parent can always sleep in the room with child
- All experienced pediatric advanced life support certified registered nurses
- Many nurses certified with the National Pediatric Organization
