Comprehensive Educational Course Offering
From pregnancy, labor, and childbirth, to newborn care, breastfeeding and toddler tips, Morton Plant Hospital offers a comprehensive selection of educational courses designed to address you and your family’s wide range of needs and concerns:
Big Brother/Big Sister - A child-friendly class for siblings ages 3 to 9 to help prepare them to take pride in their new role as a brother or sister. (One 1½-hour class)
Birth Center Tours - A free opportunity to visit the facility where you will be giving birth designed to help you feel "at home" when you arrive for the "big event".
Boot Camp for New Dads - Expectant dads learn from veterans and their babies about all aspects of fatherhood: from burping to changing diapers as well as important issues such as bonding and forming a parenting team. (One 3-hour workshop)
Breastfeeding – Choose from two informative classes on breastfeeding:
- Part I: Take this class late in your pregnancy to help you make an informed decision about this learned art. (One 1½ -hour class)
- Part II: "Out and About": Learn tips to help incorporate breastfeeding into your busy life. (One 2-hour class)
Infant/Child CPR - Certified instructors teach lifesaving CPR techniques (One 3-hour class)
Natural Childbirth - Celebrate the birth process. Learn time-honored tools to empower you as you prepare emotionally, physically and mentally for this natural and healthy process. (Two 2½ -hour classes)
Newborn Care - Familiarize yourself with all aspects of infant care and feel more secure when your baby arrives. (One 2½ -hour class)
Prepared Childbirth - This popular series helps expectant moms and their partners become more confident, informed, active participants in childbirth. We highly recommend that you register before your fifth month. Choose from a variety of options to fit your schedule:
- Two 2½-hour classes
- 4-hour weekend classes
- One 4-hour class
- Online course with 2 ½-hour Birth Shop
Water Birth - Hear about the history, current trends, benefits and contraindications of warm-water immersion for labor and/or birth as well as the physical process and preparation. (One 2-hour class)
