Morton Plant Mease Invites Community to 17th Annual Melanoma Monday Event - Free Skin Cancer Screenings|
CLEARWATER, FL, (April 5, 2013) – Morton Plant Mease physicians and other health care practitioners will participate in Melanoma Monday, a nationwide campaign to encourage early detection and raise awareness of skin cancers. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States with more than one million cases diagnosed annually. Florida residents are particularly at risk due to year round exposure to UV rays.
This will be the 17th annual Morton Plant Mease Melanoma Monday event offering free skin cancer screenings to the community. The skin cancer screenings will be held on Monday, May 6, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Morton Plant Hospital.

Melanoma is the most life threatening form of skin cancer and fifth most common cancer for men and sixth most common for women. The American Cancer Society estimates about 120,000 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed in the U.S. every year and 9,000 people die from melanoma each year.
