Minimally Invasive Surgery

Less Pain, Fewer Complications, Faster Recovery

Not that many years ago, major invasive surgery was the routine for any number of gynecological conditions. Today, most gynecologic surgery can be performed using minimally invasive techniques, which offer significant patient benefits:

  • Less post-surgical pain
  • Fewer complications including less blood loss and risk of infection
  • Faster recovery times

Morton Plant Mease surgeons remain on the leading edge of these innovative procedures to treat gynecological conditions including:

  • Robotic-assisted technology in the surgical treatment of gynecological cancer and other gynecologic conditions
  • Uterine fibroid embolization

Common minimally-invasive procedures include:

  • Laparoscopy: Using tiny cameras and small incisions, laparoscopic surgery is used to diagnose and manage conditions of the reproductive organs, lower abdomen and pelvis
  • Endometrial ablation: removal of the uterine lining to reduce abnormal bleeding
  • Hysterectomy: (abdominal, vaginal, radical, laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy) removal of part or all of the uterus to treat uterine cancer, fibroid tumors, endometriosis, uterine prolapse, or other conditions of the uterus
  • Hysteroscopy: to remove polyps and fibroids, perform selective endometrial biopsies and address scarring in the endometrial cavity.
